8. Build Towns Not Sprawl
  • The loss of AMP/TYCO campus (over 2,500 jobs) had
    a big impact on adjacent commercial areas and the
    City of Harrisburg
  • Challenge was how to revitalize area and
    capitalize on redevelopment opportunities of
    former campus
  • Paxton St. was a one-way state highway that made
    access and traffic circulation difficult

8. Build Towns Not Sprawl
  • Public-private partnership between developers,
    Swatara Township, and PennDOT
  • Local funds used for all pre-construction
    activities
  • Re-established two-way traffic on Paxton St. and
    created new and improved access to TecPort Center
    and Harrisburg East Mall
  • TecPort Center now provides over 3,500 jobs.
    Additional 1,500 jobs planned in the future.

    improve safety and address congestion but
    minimize loss of parking

  • Project funding from state, local and private
    funds including Transportation Enhancements
    Program, STP funds, Maintenance funds, and
    53,000 from private donations
