Title: Rotaract

1
Rotaract
  • A compilation of Rotaract Projects from Russia
    and beyond.

2
Rotaract
  • Rotaract Clubs work under the guidance of their
local Rotary Club, and take their name from a
combination of the words Rotary and action. The
first officially chartered Rotaract Club was in
North Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1968, but
clubs of young people associated in service with
local Rotary Clubs had existed for several years
    in India and Europe.
  • Today, there are some 165,000 members in more
than 7,000 Rotaract Clubs in 151 countries. Clubs
draw members from the community or are organized
as an extracurricular activity for college
    students.
  • Rotaract Clubs conduct formal meetings, usually
every two weeks, which feature speakers, tours of
    local businesses, cultural activities,
discussions, and visits to other clubs.
Rotaractors utilize weekends for service project
work, social events, and professional and
    leadership development workshops.
  • Every Rotaract Club is part of a district
    Rotaract organization, run by elected
    representatives with support from sponsoring
    Rotarians. The district organization plans
    regional conferences, develops regional projects,
holds club leadership training programs, and
sponsors special events to strengthen the bond
    among clubs.

Rotaract Club of Irkutsk-Baikal
  • We have recently taken part in an exposition that
took place in Irkutsk, for social organizations.
Almost all of the citys and regional
organizations gathered in the grand expositional
hall of the SibExpoCenter. This was the first
time that our club participated in an exposition
and we were very successful. We made four signs,
which had information on our activities, Rotary
and the Rotaract movement. We showed off the
handicrafts made by the children from an
orphanage and even managed to sell some. In
addition, we made a presentation of our club
right after the opening ceremony, and as a result
many people had an opportunity to get acquainted
with us and find out about our club. Our
president, Anna Gordeeva, was able to participate
in a discussion with representatives of
    legislature about teen issues.
  • Also, we participated in a big game for children.
According to this game, children had to go to
different stands and answer questions about
Irkutsks history and the amount of points they
received depend on how many questions they
answered correctly the person with the most
points won. A member of our club, Marina
Proshuta, was the person who asked the questions
about the history of our town.

Rotaract Club of Vladivostok
  • It is well known to all Vladivostok citizens that
every year in October our city is visited by
cruise ships of British and American companies
    (Princess Cruise (Regal Princess), Norwagian
Wind, etc). These amazingly beautiful 12 storied
vessels with several thousands foreigners onboard
attract attention of hundreds of people coming to
Marine Passenger Terminal to stare at the sight
of the giants and to communicate with foreign
guests. We came up with wonderful idea of doing a
fundraiser that consisted in selling the souvenir
    merchandise to tourists.
  • In a short space of time (5 days) we agreed with
exhibition centers director upon getting a booth
at the trade-fair Russian Souvenir free of
charge. The trade-fair was timed to the ships
arrival and took place in Marine Passengers
Terminal building, just opposite the ships
    ladder. Afterwards we purchased souvenirs
wholesale at the well-known store Nostalgie,
drew a poster by common efforts, translated the
information about the fundraiser into English,
French, Portuguese, Korean and Japanese and added
our indispensable red sign of Rotaract.
  • The fundraiser has been successful. We plan to
run similar projects in future, now knowing how
everything should be going, and begin
preparations long in advance (approximately a
month before). Proceeds will go for the needs of
    Regional Children Oncology Center.

Nakhodka Rotaract Club
  • The Nakhodka Rotaract Club members were dressed
in the costumes of Santa Clause and Snow Maiden
to visit and bring presents to disabled children
who live in Nakhodka. This project was a jointly
organized by Nakhodka Rotary and Rotaract club
members. And its purpose was to please the
children to make them rejoice over coming New
Year. Decorated with festive attires of the New
Year heroes Rotaractors visited 22 families where
disabled children live. It happened during the
period of 28th 31st of January. The children
were astonished and happy with such attention but
their reaction to it was quite different.
Considering that there were children who have
various physical defects Rotaractors tried to
provide the attention to all the disabled and to
attract everybody for the conversation. Some
children merrily read poems out loud for Santa
sang songs another ones being afraid but curious
simply took the presents from Santa.
  • Having seen that most of the families they had
visited were the low-income ones next day the
members of the club collected second-hand clothes
from ordinary people and brought it to the
several families as a small material help. Having
got many impressions both Rotaractors and the
children told they were hoping for annual
    continuation of this action.
