A Brief History
The Cabrillo High School Aquarium began in the
Fall of 1986 as a partnership between one
student, one teacher, and a local
physician/amateur aquarist who agreed to
sponsor their science project-- a warm water
reef. The original partnership soon blossomed
into hundreds of partnerships among students,
teachers, district staff, parents, and members
of the business-- locally and nationally.

- We have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement
with Vandenberg Air Force Base for access to 35
miles of protected coastline.
NOAA Undersecretary Scott Gudes I can only
compare what you have done to the yellow brick
road in the Wizard of Oz. Nobodys ever taken
this journey in the direction you folks are
taking it. What youve created is special. Ive
not seen anything like it before.
- We have received Congressional recognition
from the U.S. House of Representatives.
- We were invited by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration to Washington D.C. to
make presentations to NOAA and the Department of
Justice.

Over the past 15 years the Cabrillo Aquarium has
been educating surrounding schools, in and out of
our district. We provide information on
environmental safety and ocean life to students
from pre-school to the college level.
