Law 9 Method of Scoring
  • Conversion kick
  • Must use the same ball unless defective
  • Must use an approved kicking tee
  • Must take it within 1 min which starts with the
    arrival of the kicking tee
  • Even if the ball falls over

Kickers Team
  • Everyone must be behind the ball except the
    placer
  • Neither the kicker or placer must do anything to
    mislead the opp. into charging early
  • If the kickers team infringe the kick is
    dissallowed

Ball falling over
  • If the ball falls over the kicker is allowed to
    place the ball again within time
  • If it falls over after the approach, the opp can
    continue to charge
  • If the ball rolls away from the line and still
    kicks it over it stands
  • If it rolls into touch the goal is dissallowed

Opposition Team
  • Must retire to goal line and stay there untill
    the kicker begins the approach to kick
  • Then they can try and prevent the kick at goal
    BUT must not be physically supported by team
    mates
  • Must not shout

  • If they infringe
  • and the kick is over goal stands
  • if unsuccessful the kicker may take another kick
    and the opp. Cant charge
  • The kicker may go thru all the preparations and
    may change the type of kick

Special Circumstances
  • If after the ball is kicked it touches the ground
    or a teammate the goal is disallowed
  • If the ball crosses over the cross bar a goal is
    awarded even if the wind blows it back
  • Any player who touches the ball in an attempt to
    stop a penalty goal is illegally touching the
    ball

Obstruction
  • Charging When running shoulder to shoulder
    cant charge or push
  • Running in front of ball carrier Cant move in
    front of a teammate who has the ball, preventing
    opponents from tackling or the opportunity to
    tackle potential ball carriers
  • Blocking the ball must not intentionally stand
    or move to prevent a player from playing the ball
  • Flanker must not obstruct the opposing half back

Unfair Play
  • Intentionally Offending A player must not
    intentionally offend the rules
  • Note A player who prevents a try being scored
    and a PT awarded must be sin binned
  • Time wasting F.K.
  • Touch A player mustn't intentionally throw,
    place, knock, the ball into touch or touch in
    goal. PK 15m out

Repeated Infringement
  • Cant repeatedly infringe the laws of the game.
    Its a matter of fact, whether the player
    intended to offend is irrelevant
  • Must be strict and consistent in applying this. 3
    times and the player is cautioned and SB.
  • Same applies for the team
  • Rules may be relaxed for junior matches, where it
    may be lack of skill/law knowledge

  • Punch
  • Stamping or Trampling
  • Kicking
  • Tripping
  • Late or high tackle
  • May not player tackle a player whose feet are off
    the ground
  • Play a player without the ball except
    ruck/maul/scrum

  • Cant charge a player without trying to grasp that
    player
  • Mustn't collapse a scrum/ruck/maul
  • Mustnt charge into a ruck without binding to a
    player
  • Retaliation even if the other player is
    infringing
  • Acts contrary to good sportsmanship

Misconduct while the ball is out of Play
  • PK at where play would restart
  • If that is within 15m of touch the mark is on the
    15m line
  • If play would restart at a 5m scrum the mark is
    at the scrum
  • If restart at a 22m, the PK can be taken anywhere
    along the 22m Line
  • If anything else happens within the playing
    enclosure not covered by the law PK 15m out from
    touch

Late Charging the Kicker
  • Non-offending team have choice of PK at place of
    infringement or where the ball lands/played
  • Place of Infringement If in goal 5m out at
    least 15m in touch
  • Where the ball lands at least 15m in from
    touch. If ingoal 5m out and at least 15m out. If
    it hits the posts where it lands

Foul Play cont
  • Cavalry charge and Flying wedge illegal
  • If a player has been sinbinned and then the
    player commits another sinbinnable offence within
    the foul play law the player is GONEBURGER

Offside and Onside
  • General Play offside if in front of a team mate
    with the ball or team mate who last played the
    ball
  • Liable to PK if the offside player does one of
    three things
  • Interferes with play
  • Moves forward towards the ball
  • Fails to comply with the 10m Law
  • Not offside if receive a forward pass

  • Player runs behind the teamate who last played
    the ball
  • Ball carrier runs infront of the offside player
  • Teamate who was onside when the ball was kicked
    runs past the offside player
  • The teammate may be in touch but
  • must return to the playing area to put the
  • teammate onside

10m Law
  • Offside player considered to be taking part in
    the game if they are within 10m of an opponent
    waiting to play the ball or where the ball is
    going to land. It is a line not a circle.
  • Can be put onside by teammate BUT not the
    opposition
  • If the player charges an opponent must blow the
    whistle straight away

10m Law
  • Doesnt matter if the ball hits the posts it is
    where the ball lands.
  • A player who is within the 10m and plays the ball
    misfielded by an opponent is penalised.
  • Doesnt count in a charge down. As the player
    wasnt waiting to play the ball

Offside general Play
  • If a player is penalised for offside in general
    play the opposition have a choice
  • PK at the place of infringement
  • Or Scrum at where the opposition last played the
    ball. If that is in goal, scrum is 5m out.
  • Penalise the player closest to the opponent
    waiting to play the ball

Accidental Offside
  • If the players team gains no advantage play on.
  • If adv. gained scrum.
  • If a player knocks on and an offside player next
    plays the ball the player is penalised if doing
    so PREVENTED the opposition gaining advantage.

  • Remain offside even when the opposition win
    possession
  • Can only be out onside by retiring to the offside
    line

  • A player cannot loiter offside and prevent the
    opposition from the freedom to play the ball.

Knock-on/Throwforward
  • Occurs when a player losses possession of the
    ball and it goes forward or when a player hits
    the ball forward with the hand or arm and the
    ball touches the ground or another player before
    the original player can catch it
  • Forward towards the opposing teams goal line.
  • EXCEPT charge down.

Throw-forward
  • When a player throws or passes the ball forward
  • If the ball is not thrown forward but it hits a
    player or the ground and bounces forward, this is
    not a throw forward
  • Cant intentionally throw forward or knock on.
