What is SEAL ?
  • SEAL is a comprehensive approach to promoting the
    social and emotional skills that underpin
    effective learning, positive behaviour, regular
    attendance, staff effectiveness and the emotional
    health and well-being of all who learn and work
    in schools

Why is SEAL important in our Schools?

  • be effective and successful learners
  • be self motivated
  • make and sustain friendships
  • deal with and resolve conflict effectively
  • solve problems by themselves and with others
  • manage strong feelings
  • recover from setbacks and persist in the face of
    difficulty
  • work co-operatively

What do we want for our children?
  • We want children who
  • learn how to communicate their feelings, set
    themselves goals and work towards them, interact
    successfully with others, resolve conflicts
    peaceably, control their anger and negotiate
    their way through the many complex relationships
    in their lives today and tomorrow.

Whole School Approach
  • For SEAL to be effective a whole school
    approach is key
  • The SEAL Resource has extensive materials to
    support emotional and social development from
    Early Years through to the end of KS3
  • It is a structured themed resource making key
    skills explicit and accessible to all

    to children makes a difference to their learning,
    behaviour and life outcomes.

    foundation upwards
  • Secondary SEAL launched May 2007.
